Are you ready to move to Park City, but aren't ready to buy a home just yet? We at BestSkiProperty.com don't manage rental properties, but we do get questions all the time asking where to look for long-term rental options.
Most apartment-style properties in and around Park City are condo complexes in which each unit is individually owned rather than traditional apartment complexes in which one party owns and manages the whole building or development. Some owners live in their homes full time, and others own them as investments and rent them out. Some of these individual owners rely on 3rd-party services, but most advertise and manage their properties on their own.
You can find listings from many of these owners on these two free web sites - craigslist and KSL classifieds. Some also place paid ads in our local newspaper, the Park Record. Each is commonly used by property owners searching for tenants for their condos and houses, and none of the sites gets cluttered with vacation rental ads. For craigslist and KSL, just enter "Park City" in their search criteria, and you'll see plenty of listings. The 3rd-party services and apartment complexes generally list on these sites as well, so the sites really are one-stop shopping. Here are the specifics for each.
KSL - KSL 5 TV is the local NBC affiliate in Salt Lake City. From their main page, click Homes in the upper right, then click the "FOR RENT" tab. From there, enter "Park City, UT" and any additional search criteria you like. This site is powered by a service called Rentler. The site is easy to use and provides lots of information.
craigslist - If you don't get redirected to their Salt Lake City page, then in the US States section click Utah, then Salt Lake City. From there under the heading Housing, click "apts / housing". From there, enter ' "Park City" ' in the search criteria, and you can also refine your search by price, bedrooms, etc. One thing to note is that you also may get some results form Salt Lake City and other nearby areas because something like "20 minutes from Park City" is in the listing description. But I find that most of the results are indeed from the Park City area - more on what I mean by "Park City area" in a future blog post! This site is also simple to use and has no ads.
The Park Record - Click on Marketplace in the upper right, then Rentals, or just pick up a copy of the paper.
As craigslist suggests, do NOT wire funds, provide a credit card, etc. sight-unseen based solely upon an online listing, particularly if it seems "too good to be true". Some scam artists lift pictures, descriptions, and addresses from online listings of real houses and condos, which often times are not even for rent or sale.
UPDATE -- I updated this in a new post that includes additional ideas.
One last thing - the leaves are continuing to turn, and we had a frost last night. Winter is on the way! This is from the lower parking lot at Park City.
